Welcome!
The General Nathanael Greene-Pettaquamscutt Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, meets in and serves the East Greenwich, West Greenwich, Warwick, West Warwick, Coventry, Exeter, and North Kingstown communities. Our more than 80 friendly and dedicated members undertake a wide variety of activities in order to further the DAR mission to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
Our Chapter
In 1895, just five years after the founding of the National Society in 1890, the General Nathanael Greene Chapter was established in East Greenwich. Early members resided primarily in East Greenwich and the Potowomut area of Warwick with most of the early meetings being held in Potowomut homes. In 2010, the Pettaquamscutt Chapter, organized in 1933 in North Kingstown, merged with the General Nathanael Greene Chapter to form the General Nathanael Greene-Pettaquamscutt Chapter, as we are known today. In 2025, our Chapter marked 130 years of service.
Historic Preservation - Education - Patriotism
In furtherance of the NSDAR mission of historic preservation, The GNG-P Chapter owns and maintains two historic properties:
~ The Ye Old Baptist Burying Ground, Rhode Island Historic Cemetery No. EG062, in East Greenwich. This cemetery was laid out in 1729 and is the final resting place of four Revolutionary War Patriots who called Rhode Island home.
~ The General Nathanael Greene Memorial Seat site on Old Forge Road in Warwick. This site is adjacent to Forge Farm, General Nathanael Greene's birthplace. Our Chapter erected this monument in 1905 in celebration of the Chapter's 10th anniversary.
The GNG-P Chapter also supports the James Mitchell Varnum House Museum in East Greenwich. One of the bedrooms is designated to our Chapter.
The GNG-P Chapter collects donations and supplies in support of our "Community Classroom" schools. Each spring, we recognize graduating seniors from area high schools with the DAR Good Citizen Award as well as local 8th graders with DAR Youth Leadership Medals.
Finally, the GNG-P Chapter supports veteran-focused and active military initiatives through Wreaths Across America and DAR Project Patriot.
Schedule
Our Chapter holds monthly meetings from March-June and September-December. Our meeting location varies depending upon the program. Meetings might also feature a guest speaker or a visit to a local historic site. We offer morning, afternoon, and evening meetings as well as an occasional weekend meeting in order to accommodate as many member's schedules as possible.
We welcome current and prospective NSDAR members and associate members!
